Dynamometers; modifying scale of readings.- The brake-horse-power of a prime mover is tested by applying the flexible band of the pull-registering device and the friction pulley of the speed indicator to the fly-wheel, and combining the two resultant movements upon an indicating-dial. The disk a, mounted on the spring- controlled arms c pivoted to the lever e, contacts with the periphery of the fly-wheel d and drives a centrifugal governor g to actuate a lever h attached to the indicating-pencil j by a Bowden wire i. A cradle, attached to two arms l which allow of a limited movement, has a flexible band m adapted to adjust itself automatically to the periphery of the fly - wheel, and is connected to the spring balance r to indicate the pull on the wheel. The cradle receives its limited movement from the pinion o and the fixed rack n, the upper rack q being attached to the dial k by the rod s and giving the dial a motion corresponding to the variation in the pull. The combined movement of the dial k and the pencil gives the brake - horsepower, the dial being suitably graduated to read the result direct. The dial k may be replaced by a drum actuated by the pull device, the pencil being operated directly from the speed mechanism. In another form, which avoids crowding of the higher readings, the dial is made in the shape of a logarithmic spiral slot and is rotated by a rack and pinion moved by the cradle, the pencil being actuated from the speed indicator and caused to move in the slot in the opposite direction to that of the dial.

Abstract: There is provided a mobile decontamination unit which includes at least first and second shower compartments and a method of decontaminating a person with this unit. The shower compartments have a shower head and a drain located therein. There is a system for providing water to the shower heads. There is a storage tank connected to the drains to store contaminated water from the shower compartments. There is a waiting compartment, that is preferably maintained under positive pressure, connected to the shower compartment. There is a ventilation system for maintaining the shower compartments at a negative air pressure. There are means for heating the water before it reaches the shower heads. In using the unit, a person enters the first shower compartment wearing clothing and showers therein while still wearing the clothing so as to remove contaminants from the clothing. At least some of the clothing is then removed and stored before the person enters the second shower compartment and showers therein. The person dries off in a dry off compartment of the unit.

[Addition to 24,790/08, Class 7, Air and gas engines.] Dynamometers, rotary absorption. -In dynamometers of the type described in the parent Specification, for measuring brake horse-power directly, a stylus actuated by the governor mechanism is caused to travel over a drum rotated by the pull on the friction band, which engages the flywheel of the engine being tested. The friction band m is completed by two parallel chains o thus forming a continuous band passing over the three pulleys p secured to the frame or lever e. A pin r mounted between the chains, has a tension spring r attached to it and to a support on the lever e. One of the pulleys p is provided with a chain-pulley p , over which passes a small chain p to a pulley on the shaft of the record drum t. The speed-indicator driving- wheel a is mounted between the ends of two links c, and is arranged to project through a slot in the band m; it is pressed against the fly-wheel of the engine or the like being tested by springs c . The links c are pivoted at a point d coincident with the circumference of the drum t, so that the movement of the wheel a does not affect the pointer j on the arm h, which is adapted to traverse the drum under the influence of the governor mechanism g attached to the wheel a. The frame e is supported on three telescopic legs, and is fitted with a handle u whereby the operator may produce the necessary pressure between the fly-wheel and the band m. To allow the band m to accommodate itself to different diameters of fly-wheels, the pulleys p may be secured to pivoted arms.
