Disclosed herein are highly stable styrenated phenolic compositions that are liquids at room temperature, and polymer articles and lubricant compositions containing such styrenated phenolic compositions. Also disclosed are processes for forming such styrenated phenolic compositions, which processes afford distyrenated phenolics assaying at 70% minimum by total GC area, comprising reacting styrene with one or more phenolics, e.g., at least one of phenol, p-cresol and/or o-cresol, in the presence of an acid catalyst, preferably a sulfonic acid catalyst, at elevated temperature, wherein the resulting product mixture comprises one or more monostyrenated phenolics, one or more distyrenated phenolics, and one or more tristyrenated phenolics.

Compositions comprising substituted phenylenediamine and substituted triazine compounds, including tris-(N-alkyl-p-phenylenediaminol)-1,3,5-triazines. The compositions are liquid and do not sinter during storage or transportation. The compositions are used as antiozonants for elastomer articles, including rubber articles.

A process for alkylation of a N' -phenyl-N-alkyl-p- phenylenediamine of specified formula in an ionic liquid unexpectedly produces a N' -phenyl-N-alkyl (alkylphenylene) diamine of a second specified formula. The use of an inorganic liquid permits convenient separation of the alkylated reaction product from the reaction mixture.

A process for ring-alkylating aniline or an aniline derivative in which aniline or an aniline derivative is reacted with an alkylating agent in the presence of an ionic liquid which includes a Lewis acid and a quaternary cation, to produce a ring-alkylated alkylaniline .or a ring-alkylated aniline derivative. The use of an ionic liquid permits convenient separation of the alkylated reaction product from the reactants.

A single-step process is disclosed for the ring alkylation of at least one N-alkyl-N'-phenyl-phenylenediamine with at least one olefin wherein the process comprises heating a mixture of the N-alkyl-N'-phenyl-phenylenediamine(s) and olefin(s) in the presence of a catalytic amount of at least one alkyl aluminum halide at a temperature of from about 50 to about 350 °C in a sealed vessel for from about one to about 30 hours.
