Abstract:

[Also in Division B1] In apparatus for mixing a gas or liquid to a fluid flowing in a conduit 1 having a conically widening constriction 4 to induce turbulence, there is at the constriction a radial annular slot between members 5, 9 to which the additive supply pipe 7 is connected through passages 6 and which discharges into conduit 1 so that the additive enters the conduit perpendicularly to the flow therein. In the slot is a resilient ring 11 which sets as a non-return valve member for the supply of additive and which in the embodiment shown is loaded by the spring 10. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the spring 10 is replaced by a resilient hollow annular member (17) to which compressed air can be supplied, forming a pneumatic spring to retain the member 11 closed or to regulate the width of the outflow slot. Alternatively the member (17) can act as valve member, the ring 11 being omitted. The apparatus is suitable for mixing e.g. ammonia or other highly soluble gas with water.
Abstract:
A conveyor mechanism for the transport of hanging loops of fabric through a steaming chamber, comprises devices at the beginning and end of a horizontal track for the emplacement in the track and removal from the track respectively of a series of horizontal rollers which carry the loops of the fabric. At the front of the track is an eccentric cam which in each revolution advances the rollers along the track a distance equal to the dia. of one roller, and having a profiled projection which holds the roller about to be laid in the track. This is a simple and economical mechanism which provides reliable, jolt-free, continuous transport for the material.
