Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a delivery device for implanting a vaso-occlusive device for establishing an embolus or vascular occlusion in a vessel of a human or veterinary patient.SOLUTION: A device (60) for delivering an occlusive element includes an elongate sheath (64) having a lumen (66) therein. An elongate core member (68) is disposed within the lumen and is formed from a proximal portion (68a) and a distal portion (68b) connected via a joint (70). The distal portion of the elongate core member includes a severable junction (90) secured to the occlusive element. A marker coil (78) is coaxially arranged around the distal portion of the elongate core member and is partially disposed inside the sheath lumen. A coil member (80) is coaxially arranged around the distal portion of the elongate core member and coaxially arranged around at least a portion of the marker coil extending outside the lumen of the sheath. The coil member is secured at a distal end thereof to the distal portion of the elongate core member. The device resists axial compression while allowing for radial bending.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an implant assembly, not requiring long time for separating an implantable instrument from a pusher wire.SOLUTION: An implant assembly 14 includes: a slender pusher member 18; an implantable instrument (a vascular occlusion instrument) 22 fitted to the distal end part of the pusher member 18; and a joint 20 provided on the pusher member 18 and electrolytic-separable. When the separable joint 20 is separated, the implantable instrument 22 separates from the pusher member 18. The implant assembly 14 further includes: a return electrode such as a coil supported by the distal end part of the pusher member 18. Although the return electrode is close to the separable joint 20, it is electrically insulated therefrom, and the implant assembly 14 further includes: a terminal which has electrically communicating relationship with the separable joint 20 and is supported by the proximal end part of the pusher member 18.
Abstract:
A multimode occlusion and stenosis treatment apparatus comprises an elongated member having a distal region, and an enclosure secured to the distal region of the elongated member, the enclosure comprising a flow restoring segment, an open segment distal of the flow restoring segment, and a capture segment distal the open segment. In use, a catheter is inserted into a selected blood vessel until a distal end of the catheter is distal of an occlusive or stenotic lesion in the blood vessel. The multimode occlusion and stenosis treatment apparatus is inserted into the catheter, the flow restoring segment is aligned with the lesion, and the catheter is withdrawn relative to the apparatus until a distal end of the catheter is proximal of the flow restoring segment to thereby allow the flow restoring segment to expand radially and compress the lesion against an inner surface of the blood vessel.
