Abstract:
Methods of manufacturing a curved vehicle display including a display module having a display surface, and a curved glass substrate disposed on the display surface using cold bending of the glass substrate, and curved vehicle displays are disclosed.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus provide for: disposing an intermediate layer formed from at least one of: a metal, a conductive oxide, and combined layers of the metal and the conductive oxide, on one of a first material layer and a second material layer; and coupling the first and second material layers together via an anodic bond between the intermediate layer and the other of the first and second material layers.
Abstract:
Disclosed are systems and methods for separating a glass sheet along a predetermined line. Laser beams are generated and shaped into elongated laser beams. Arm members are provided that are pivotally coupled together to form a chain of arm members. Each elongated laser beam is directed therefrom a respective laser beam toward the glass sheet to form a contiguous chain of elongated laser beams thereon a surface of the glass sheet. The arm members can be moved to move the contiguous chain of elongated laser beams along the predetermined line to scoring the glass sheet along the predetermined line.
Abstract:
Variations in extrusion speed or flowfront shape across the outlet faces of honeycomb extrusion dies are predicted from variations in die geometry across multiple die extrusion zones, based on data correlating the variables to the variations in extrusion speed or flowfront shape, or on calculations of the pressure drops to be experienced by extrudable materials traversing the extrusion zones, adjusting the variations through die processing as desired to appropriately modify die geometry prior to use of the die in an extruder.
Abstract:
Embodiments of a deadfront article for a display are disclosed herein. The deadfront article includes a substrate having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface. Also included is a semitransparent black layer disposed onto at least a first portion of the second surface of the substrate. The semitransparent black layer is configured to obscure the display when the display is inactive and to allow viewing of the display when the display is active.
Abstract:
Embodiments of a vehicle interior system are disclosed. In one or more embodiments, the system includes a base with a curved surface, and a display or touch panel disposed on the curved surface. The display includes a cold-bent glass substrate with a thickness of 1.5 mm or less and a first radius of curvature of 20 mm or greater, and a display module and/or touch panel attached to the glass substrate having a second radius of curvature that is within 10% of the first radius of curvature. Methods for forming such systems are also disclosed.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a method of protecting a glass surface during transportation and/or process using an aqueous solution of an acrylic material to protectively coat the surface of the glass sheet. The acrylic protective coating is applied by dipping, roller applying or spraying the coating on the glass using an aqueous solution fo pH >= 9. The coating is then cured, dried or baked in an oven. Subsequently, the glass sheet is scored and separated into individual glass article blanks for further processing; for example, edge grinding to produce smooth edges and drilling/milling to produce openings such as holes in the surface of the glass. When processing of the glass article is completed, the protective coating can be removed or the article can be shipped to the end used who can remove the coating using an aqueous solution of pH > 12 to remove the coating.
Abstract:
A method and an apparatus for both scoring and separating a brittle material, and in particular a glass sheet or substrate, using only a single laser beam. A radiation zone created by the beam incident on the glass substrate, and the radiation zone is effectively formed into two portions by a coolant jet incident on the radiation zone. The radiation zone is separated into a leading portion, which generates a vent crack partially through a thickness of the substrate, and a trailing portion that propagates the vent crack through the remainder of the substrate, thereby separating the substrate.
