    Abstract: This standardised fuel pumping module is used within a forecourt fuel dispenser. Improved fluid flow paths include a shaped conduit between an output of a rotary fuel pump and a vortex air separator. Internal dimensions are optimized. A swash pump cartridge option with a variable speed drive provides up to at least 140 air-free l/min from the dispenser. Torque and motor speed signals allow comparisons with fuel meter revolution rate to indicate fraud or faults during delivery of fuel without extra transducers. Means to shut down the dispenser and raise an alarm are provided.

    Abstract: A rotatable drive shaft in the swash pump or turbine for liquids is supported by one bearing at each end. An integrated motor or dynamo uses the same two bearings. The compound first bearing supports a slanted section of the drive shaft placed inside the inner swash sphere, and transfers rotational power to the attached nutatable swash plate. The second bearing confines rotation of the drive shaft in a defined axis. Either one of the bearings is made to prevent axial movement of the drive shaft, preventing swash pump misalignment. A resilient drive, and an immersed pump are described.

    Abstract: A swash pump or turbine includes an inner swash sphere 103 supporting an annular swash plate 103A and having a central aperture 103B. The swash plate is housed within an enclosed pumping chamber 105 enclosed on each side by a fixed cone plate 101, 107 in the shape of a shallow cone so that the plate is enclosed outwardly by the internal surface 106 of a fixed partial sphere housing. The inner swash sphere nutates as the slanted section 102A of the rotatable common drive shaft 102 is rotated within the central aperture 103B whilst maintaining moving sealing lines between the swash plate and the cone plates. The common drive shaft 102 is entirely supported by two bearing elements being (A) a compound bearing supporting the swash plate and having an outer part which is the outer surface of the inner swash sphere slidably supported upon two concave part spherical bearings 109, 109A that are in turn supported against the housing and an inner part being journalled bearings 108 within the central aperture 103B of the inner swash sphere that rotatably support the slanted section of the drive shaft, and (B) a single bearing 110 rotatably supporting the straight section of the common drive shaft against the housing.

    Abstract: 599862 A vapour recovery system recovers vapours expelled from a vehicle during refuelling at a fuel dispensing point and returns the vapours to an underground storage tank through a vapour flow path that is in fluid communication with an air to liquid regulator valve and a vapour pump. The air to liquid regulator valve (500) regulates the amount of vapour that is recovered through the fuel dispensing point in proportion to the fuel dispensed into the vehicle, and a controller (270) monitors a parameter of the vapour recovery system such as, for example, the pressure within a first portion of the vapour flow path (220) between the inlet side of the vapour pump (250) and the air to liquid regulator valve, and maintains a substantially constant pressure level in the first portion of the vapour flow path. As the amount of fuel that is dispensed by the fuel nozzle (210) increases, the amount of vapour laden air that is drawn into the combined inlet portion of the vapour return passages by the vapour pump increases. This increased load on the vapour pump causes the vapour pump to begin to slow down as more torque is required but the current supplied to the motor (252) remains constant. In response to the reduction in speed, the control system increases the amount of current provided to the motor, thereby increasing the amount of torque that is produced. As such, the vapour pump is able to maintain the desired vacuum level within the combined inlet portion of the vapour return passages even though the amount of vapour being drawn through the vapour pump has increased. The control system similarly reduces the amount of current that is supplied to the motor when the load on the vapour pump is reduced.
