    Abstract: The title compds. I (X=H, cyano, alkoxy, cyclozlkyloxy, alkylthio, arylthio, alkyl, -NRR'; R=H, alkyl; R'=alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, acyl; Y, Z independently=halo, alkyl, alkoxy, nitro; m, n=0-2) were prepd. Thus, nicotine-4'-chloroanilide was treated with SOCl2 to give the imino chloride, which was treated with CuCN to give 60% 4'-chlorophenylimino-C-(cyano)methyl-3-pyridine. At 1kg of the latter compd./ha there was >80% inhibition of plasmopera viticola on vine plants. Other compds. also had plant growth retardant and leaf abscission activity.

    Abstract: Title compds. useful as intermediates for insecticide, were prepd. by reaction of the mixt. of metha-aryloxy-benzyl and-benzal halide. and aq. NH3, HCHO or hexamethylenetetramine followed by hydrolysis at pH 3-6.5 in the presence of CH3COOH or inorganic acid. Thus the mixt. of 3-phenoxybenzyl bromide and 3-phenoxybenzal bromide which were prepd. by reaction of 3-phenoxytoluene with Br2, was mixed with hexa methylenetetramine and H2O. The mixt. was maintanined at 105oC 4hr under refluxing and was hydrolysed with conc. HCl to give metha-phenoxy-benzaldehyde.

    Abstract: Hydrocarbons are dehydrogenated with a mixed oxide catalyst which is prepd. by drying and calcing a mixture of Fe2O3 20-95, K2O or K2CO3 3-30, V2O5 0.01-9, MoO3 r WO3 0.01-20, CeO3 0/01-50, CoO 0-50 and Cr2O3 0-30 wt. %. Thus, ethylbenzene is dehydrogenated at 610≦̸C, and 0-374 atm. with catalyst and water vapor to give styrene with selectivity of 93.8.
