Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrophobic additive used with a woven fabric, a fiber, and a thin film and mild to the skin.SOLUTION: The hydrophobic additive comprises a master batch composition for use in preparing a nonwoven fabric in order to improve hydrophobic properties of the nonwoven fabric. In one embodiment, the master batch composition has a polymer and triglyceride ester. The triglyceride ester constitutes 10-40 wt.% of the master batch. The woven fabric has a contact angle of 100°-125° as measured by a test method according to ASTMD2578 when it has a master batch composition.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide wettable fibers and filaments of synthetic polymers. SOLUTION: The wettable fibers or filaments are prepared from a composition having a polymer which has a wetting agent incorporated therein. The polymer is selected from the group consisting of olefin polymers, polyesters and polyamides. The wetting agent consists essentially of a glyceride selected from the group consisting of a mono-glyceride, a combination of mono-glycerides and a mixed glyceride having a mono glyceride content of at least 85 percent by weight. The fatty ester group or groups in the glyceride each have from about 12 to about 22 carbon atoms. The olefin polymer is preferably polypropylene, LLDPE, LDPE and HDPE, more preferably polypropylene. The polyamide is preferably a nylon 6 and nylon 6,6. The polyester is preferably a polyethylene terephthalate and a polybutylene terephthalate. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
Wettable fibers or filaments prepared from a composition comprising a thermoplastic polymer having incorporated therein a first wetting agent and a second wetting agent, wherein the thermoplastic polymer is preferably selected from the group consisting of olefin polymers, and wherein the first wetting agent is at least one water-insoluble, nonionic alkoxylated alkylphenol and wherein the second wetting agent is at least one compound selected from the group consisting of an alkoxylated fatty alcohol and a water-soluble, nonionic, non-hydrolyzable polyoxyalkylene-modified organosilicone polymer.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a hydrophobic additive for use with fabric, fiber, and film. One aspect of the present invention comprises a master batch composition for use in preparing a non-woven fabric in order to increase the hydrophobicity of the non-woven fabric. In one embodiment, the master batch composition includes a polymer and a lipid ester. The lipid ester comprises from 10 wt. % to 40 wt. % of the master batch. The fabric, when including the master batch composition, has a contact angle ranging from 100° to 125° when measured according to test method ASTM D2578.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wettable fiber or filament having permanently durable good wettability. SOLUTION: The wettable fiber or filament is produced from a composition containing a thermoplastic polymer incorporated with a 1st wetting agent and a 2nd wetting agent. The thermoplastic polymer is preferably selected from olefin polymers, the 1st wetting agent is at least one kind of water-insoluble nonionic alkoxylated alkylphenol and the 2nd wetting agent is at least one kind of compound selected from an alkoxylated aliphatic alcohol and a water-soluble nonionic non-hydrolyzable polyoxyalkylene-modified organosilicone polymer.
Abstract:
A non-fluorinated polymer processing aid composition comprises an organo-modified siloxane, a synergist, an antioxidant, and a carrier resin. The composition may be useful for improving polymer processing during film production by reducing sharkskin and die buildup.

Abstract:
A pigment library and a method for preparing it are provided, which includes identifying a plurality of thermoplastic polymers and then selecting pigments useful in the plurality of thermoplastic polymers. The pigments are heat stable at the melt temperature of each of the plurality of thermoplastic polymers and are not chemically interactive or reactive with each of the polymers of the plurality of thermoplastic polymer. Further, each of the pigments in combination with each of the polymers of the plurality of thermoplastic polymers possesses the property of being lightfast, injection moldable, and fiber spinnable and also not crocking. A colorant database is then prepared using the pigment library. The colorant database is used with color matching software that predict formulations using the colorant database. The result is the development of formulations that minimize or eliminate metameric color effect under various lighting conditions across multiple polymers and end product types.
