Abstract:
There is provided an optical duobinary (ODB) transmission system, including a duobinary precoder receiving data signals and converting the signals into first and second different digital signals each composed of two level voltages; a duobinary encoder fed by the precoder for converting the digital signals into three level analog signals, and a close loop control circuit for maintaining equal drive voltages for driving a Mach Zehnder Modulator (MZM). A method of encoding NRZ data for optical duobinary (ODB) transmission is also provided.

Abstract:
There is provided a system for increasing transmission distance limited by Optical Signal to Noise Ratio (OSNR), including an optical duobinary transmitter having a duobinary precoder, a Low Pass Filter (LPF) producing a duobinary signal and a modulator, at least one amplifier and a voltage level suppressing logic “zero” voltage unit connected between the LPF and modulator for modifying the waveform of the signal fed into the modulator. A method for increasing transmission distance limited by OSNR is also provided.
Abstract:
There is provided an optical duobinary transmission system, including a duobinary precoder receiving data signals and converting the signals into first and second different signals each composed of two level voltages; a two-level digital encoder fed by said precoder; each of the first and second voltage levels lead to a driver, respectively driving one electro-optical modulator for producing two distinct optical output signals, and an optical coupler connected to the output of the modulators output for producing a single optical analog summation signal of the two distinct optical output signals. A method of encoding NRZ data for optical duobinary transmission is also provided.
