    Abstract: The retractable conduit of the invention comprises a sheet of memory-set polyester (4) formed as a conduit. To manufacture the memory-set strip, the polyester sheet (4) is wound into the desired retracted, e.g. coiled, position, heated and cooled. After this process the sheet of polyester will automatically assume the retracted position. In one embodiment, suitable as a splashblock, the distal end (47) of the polyester sheet (46) is wider than the end (48) attachable to a downspout (49). In another embodiment the polyester sheet (4) is sheathed in an elongated polyethylene tube (2), to form a retractable hose. In a preferred embodiment, the distal end of the hose is supported on a spool (14) which will roll along the ground as the hose is wound and unwound to further ensure that the hose retracts properly. The tube can also be provided with holes (18) to act as a sprinkler if desired.

    Abstract: A pump cylinder (18) is driven in reciprocation relative to a hollow piston (22) within the cylinder. The piston and cylinder each have valved inlet ports (33, 34; 43, 44) at each end. A tubular member (14) communicates with the hollow of the piston centrally between the piston ends and extends perpendicular to the piston, serving further as a stationary pivot for oscillation of the piston while the cylinder is driven in a swinging reciprocation relative to the piston. The tubular member extends through and works relative to a slot (19) formed through the cylinder wall so that reciprocation of the cylinder pumps a fluid along a flow path through the valved inlet ports and along said tubular member. The cylinder is driven at low speed by a motor (15) through a gear box (16) rigidly secured to a tubular frame (71) of the pump. A number of piston and cylinder devices may be driven by a common drive means, and employ a common tubular member, in a modular arrangement. The pump is simple, reliable and quiet, and is effective to provide small quantities of air at low pressure, e.g. for aeration at isolated effluent. treatment plants and at fish farms.

    Abstract: Granules of plastics material have grains of an inert mineral such as sand coated thereon to provide a habitat for microorganisms effective in waste water treatment, the granules having a predetermined particle size range, and the grains having a predetermined particle size range and being disposed at a predetermined packing density range on the granules. The particles have an average density of approximately 1.0 g/cc such that a proportion tend to float and a proportion tend to sink in the waste water.     Abstract: A flexible, retractable assembly for use as a door, space divider, covering or the like which comprises a sheet (20) such as Mylar TM polyester film having a permanent memory set to roll up on itself or otherwise retract automatically into a coil (42), accordion, or other compact configuration.
