    Abstract: A battery charging apparatus is described comprising a charging means 26, and a casing 14 configured to substantially surround and enclose the charging means 26, the casing 14 comprising an inlet hopper 35 configured to receive and store batteries 12 for charging and from which batteries are supplied, in use, to the charging means 26, and an outlet hopper 36 configured to receive and store charged batteries 12 received, in use, from the charging means. The casing may further define a reject hopper to deliver batteries which are unsuitable for charging. Also disclosed is a battery charging apparatus comprising a charging means and electrical contacts for making electrical contact with parts of the battery received in the charging means, the contacts being L-shaped and pivotably or otherwise moveably mounted to the charging means, and charging means where the contacts are moveable between a rest position and in-use position by a drive means

    Abstract: A hand held running aide 1 has handles 2 and 3 to be held in each hand and is used during walking, jogging and running. When held in both hands the running aide links the arms together in a unified fashion and encourages a more aligned movement of the arms whilst exercising. Consequently the core muscles enjoy a better workout than if the arms are allowed to swing naturally. The running aide 1 may be weighted by filling a hollow chamber with a consumable fluid or weighted articles. The aide may have a drinking straw through which the water can be drunk and the aide may also incorporate a music player, headphones, lights, a mobile phone or an alarm.

    Abstract: An apparatus for use in shaping casual turn-down collars has a flexible shee t substrate with a profile that fits underneath a casual turn-down collar. There is an adhesive coating on each side of the substrate. The substrate fits without showing and with a portion of the substrate near a tip of the collar. The coating is self-releasing and pressure sensitive. There is a cov er film on each side of the substrate over the adhesive coating. The substrate has a removal tab section with no adhesive coating on each side of the substrate. There is a pull-tab on each cover fil m that extends beyond the adhesive coating on the substrate. The pull-tab extends over the removal tab section. The collar is manually shaped and the apparatus is placed between the shirt body and the collar to fix the collar in place.

A gland for the piston-rod 7 of an hydraulic ram comprises gland packing 19 compressed between a cover-plate 14 and a ring 17 mounted for limited axial movement in a recess 13 in the cylinder end 8 and sealed thereto by a cup seal 22 or other packing, the underside of the ring 17 being exposed to the fluid pressure in the cylinder whereby the ring is urged axially by that pressure to compress the packing 19. An annular groove 24 and radial grooves 25 ensure that fluid pressure in the cylinder acts on the underside of the ring 17 which communicates with the seal 22 through holes 26 in the ring so that the seal is expanded by the fluid pressure. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the ring 17 is sealed to the cylinder by a diaphragm 30 secured at its outer margin to the cylinder by a bead 33 clamped in a, groove 34 by the plate 14 and at its inner margin to the ring by a ring clip 36.

A contact suitable for the switch of Specification 751,489 comprises a disc or button 1 of silver riveted to a resilient blade 3 and extending over the edge of the latter to protect it from burning. The distance of overlap preferably equals twice the distance between the rivet hole 6 and the edge. With a long-stemmed rivet the part underlying the blade is deformed to be co-extensive with the overlying part (Fig. 3, not shown), but in amodification (Fig. 4) the blade is received in a part of reduced thickness with the thick part 5 protecting the blade 3, and the deformed part 7 is of smaller diameter.

Class 38(5) Mounted in the cover 1 of a three-pole contactor 2 as disclosed in Specification 633,393 is a pneumatic time-delay mechanism as disclosed in Specification 681,851 [Group XXXII] this mechanism being actuated by a projection 10 of a horizontally-slidable armature carrier 5 when the armature 4 is attracted to the magnet 3 to close bridging contacts 6, the mechanism actuating a micro switch 19. The projection 10 operates a spring-biased lever 11 to rotate a spindle 16 retarded by the pneumatic device 14, the cranked end of the spindle actuating the switch 19 through an arm 17 and a blade 18. When the contactor opens the switch 19 immediately resets. The time delay is adjustable by a knob 15.
