Abstract: The invention relates to a membrane that is produced by shaping a polymer or a polymer blend into the desired shape, charging it with a gas at hyperbaric pressure prior or after shaping it, expanding the polymer charged with gas above the glass transition temperature of the polymer/gas mixture and then cooling and stabilizing the expanded structure. The inventive method is characterized in that the polymer charged with gas is expanded with 0.05 to 4.5 wt.- % of a fluid dissolving or expanding the polymer. The inventive membrane is preferably used for medical purposes.

Abstract: The system measures the optical differences between the reaction of normal skin to a beam of light and that of a skin tumor. The light from a non-coherent source (1) is split into a reference beam (2) and a measuring beam (3). The light reflected from the scattering medium, in this case, skin (4) and the reflected (6) reference beam are detected (5). The fact that light passes through differing media at differing speeds, produces a Doppler shift between the beams, which is measured.
