Abstract:
A pin bone removal device that provides a plurality of fixed members arranged substantially in side-by-side orientation. The invention also comprises a plurality of moveable members also substantially arranged in a side-by-side orientation. In one aspect, the fixed members and moveable members collectively form a stack of members in which a moveable member is positioned adjacent each fixed member. In this aspect, a linear drive is operatively connected to each of the moveable members and is configured to cause oscillating movement of each moveable member to cause the moveable members to contact the adjacent fixed member. This movement causes pinch points to be created and released between the fixed and moveable members. As the fillet of fish is moved along the stack of members, the pin bones are caught at each pinch point and then released.
Abstract:
An electrical apparatus is provided for the conversion of compounds, elements, or mixtures which are in particulate form, into new compounds, elements or mixtures in gaseous, liquid, or particulate form. In a reaction chamber, particulates are mechanically transported into a first region of high electric field, where they acquire a charge and are projected into a second region in which a low-density plasma is maintained. Energetic plasma ions strike the surfaces of the particulates, causing chemical reactions and release of both neutral and ionic products species. Charge exchange on particulates causes the reduced-size particles to fall back into the first region, where the charging recurs and the cycle is repeated. Gaseous and particulate products are removed from the chamber. In one application, naturally-occurring ores may be reduced by a methane plasma; in another, coal may be converted in a methane plasma to intermediate range hydrocarbons.

Abstract:
Methods and systems for assessing changes to a region are disclosed. An example method can comprise receiving elevation data indicative of a region. A method can comprise generating a spatial model of the region based on the elevation data. A method can also comprise identifying based on the spatial model a first representation of a portion the region. The first representation of the portion of the region can be indicative of the portion of the region at a first time. A method can further comprise determining a difference between the first representation of the portion of the region and a second representation of the portion of the region. The second representation of the portion of the region can be indicative of the portion of the region at a second time.
Abstract:
Embodiments described herein describe the construction of frequency domain estimates of generalized power density and the filters that can be constructed from those estimates. Using the concept of the Stokes vector representation of the spectral matrix in an M-dimensional vector space, a generalization of the process in which the spectral matrix may be represented by a set of trace-orthogonal matrices that are based upon a particular signal state can be produced. One aspect of the process is as follows: given a particular signal, represented as by a state vector in the space, a complete, orthonormal set of vectors can be produced that includes the signal of interest. Then, a generalized set of matrices is constructed, based upon the developed vectors, that are trace-orthogonal and which serve as a basis set for the expansion of the spectral matrix. The coefficients of this expansion form a generalized Stokes vector that represents the power in the spectral matrix associated with the various state vectors. Filters that serve to extract or suppress information about a particular state may then be constructed using the components of the generalized Stokes vectors. The effectiveness of an embodiment this filter is demonstrated using acoustic data from a microphone array.
Abstract:
In one aspect, the invention relates to powdered, protein-rich comestibles and methods for producing same. Disclosed are powdered, protein-rich comestibles having a protein content of at least about 65%, a moisture content of less than about 5%, and a lipid content of less than about 10%, wherein the powder has an average particle size of less than about 65 μm. In one aspect, comestibles can be derived from fish sources. Also disclosed are methods for producing powdered, protein-rich comestibles by isolating soluble proteins from a mixture of water and comminuted raw fish product and drying the isolate to a powder.
Abstract:
The invention includes a new, cold tolerant strain of mycoparasite Trichoderma and mutants that are resistant to a pesticide to which the Trichoderma isolate is sensitive. These novel Trichoderma are capable of parasitizing fungi which are pathogenic to plants. They are also capable of producing proteinaceous, antimycotic substances which can inhibit the growth of plant pathogenic fungi. Cold tolerant Trichoderma and its biotypes can be used in, but not limited to, controlling fungal plant disease. This invention still further relates to a method of promoting the growth and development of a plant by applying an agriculturally effective amount of the Trichoderma isolate or Benomyl resistant mutants of the Trichoderma isolate to a plant or plant tissue.
