Abstract: PURPOSE: Provided is a skin whitening cosmetic composition which contains rhaponticin and rhapontigenin as an active ingredient. Therefore, the composition has high skin absorption and inhibits the synthesis of melanin. CONSTITUTION: A skin whitening cosmetic composition is characterized by containing, based on the total weight of the composition, 0.0001-10 wt.% of one of rhaponticin and rhapontigenin which are extracted from Rheum coreanum Nakai.
