    Abstract: PURPOSE: Illegal petroleum monitoring system and method are provided to measure frequency variation of elastic surface wave and to detect whether a gasoline component injected into a sensor is illegal or not using capillary action of a micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) based micro channel. CONSTITUTION: An illegal petroleum detection monitoring system includes a sensor node (100), a gateway (200) and a center (300). The sensor node is installed in one side of a lubricator, judges whether gasoline is illegal petroleum or not by measuring frequency variation of elastic surface wave by injecting gasoline into a capillary of a MEMS based micro channel and generates an alarm message if the gasoline is judged as illegal petroleum. The gateway wirelessly communicates with the sensor node via local area network communication. The center receives an illegal petroleum detection alarm message from the sensor nodes.
