    Abstract: The present invention relates to a flame retardant polystyrene foam in which a polystyrene foam is coated with a solution which mixes: one or more flame retardants which are selected from expandable graphite, montmorillonite, and organoclay; and an adhesive which includes polyvinylalcohol and melamine. According to the present invention, a method for manufacturing the flame retardant polystyrene foam is provided which reduces generation of harmful gas (HBr, HCl, and the likes) when burned due to halogen-free flame retardant, does not drastically increase specific gravity without degrading functionality of foam such as lowering foaming ratio or not influencing the foaming, and has excellent adhesion of foam beads with the flame retardant so that the flame retardant polystyrene foam can be provided which induces formation of char when burned and blocks flame by producing a carbonized film.
