    Abstract: A hardened calcium silicate which comprises tobermorite as a main component, and has a ratio Ib/Ia of 3.0 or more, wherein Ib represents an intensity of a diffraction peak ascribed to the (220) plane of tobermorite in powder X ray diffraction and Ia represents the minimum diffraction intensity in an angle region between two diffraction peaks ascribed to the (220) plane and the (222) plane of tobermorite, and, in its differential pore diameter distribution curve as determined by the mercury porosimetry, has a log-distribution width at 1/4 of the maximum height of 0.40 to 1.20. The hardened calcium silicate and some composites comprising the same are useful as excellent building materials which have a bulk specific gravity as small as 0.14 to 1.0, exhibit a high strength and modulus, and further are excellent with respect to the resistance to carbonation, water absorbing property, dimensional stability and the resistance to chipping.
