Abstract: A new micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration process using polymer nanoparticles for removal of hydrophobic pollutants from water is provided to improve substantially an existing micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration process for removing of hydrophobic pollutants by using amphiphilic polymer nanoparticles instead of traditional materials. A micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration process comprises: performing a soap-free emulsion polymerization of an anionic amphiphilic urethane acrylate and a non-ionic amphiphilic urethane acrylate to synthesize amphiphilic polymer cross-linked nanoparticles; adding the amphiphilic polymer cross-linked nanoparticles into polluted water that is a water phase containing hydrophobic pollutants to absorb and adsorb the hydrophobic pollutants; and separating polymer nanoparticles containing the hydrophobic pollutants from the water phase using a ultrafiltration membrane. The amphiphilic polymer cross-linked nanoparticles have a particle size range of 30 to 50 nm. The amphiphilic polymer cross-linked nanoparticles are added at a ratio of 100 to 5000 mg to 1 L of the polluted water that is a water phase containing hydrophobic pollutants.
