Abstract: Disclosed is a method for reforming the surface of a positive electrode active material for a lithium rechargeable battery by which electrochemical characteristics, thermal stability, and the likes are improved through a coating treatment of nanoparticles for the lithium rechargeable battery or positive electrode active material powder with a non-uniform shape with a stable material. The present invention provides a method for reforming the surface of a positive electrode active material for a lithium rechargeable battery, including (a) a step for dissolving dopamine in a buffer solution; (b) a step for forming a polydopamine thin film on the surface of the positive electrode active material through the addition and reaction of the positive electrode active material to and with the buffer solution in which the dopamine is dissolved; (c) a step for attaching an ion group of a coating precursor material or a hydrate to the surface of the positive electrode active material by the polydopamine through the addition and reaction of the positive electrode active material where the polydopamine thin film is formed to and with a coating solution containing the coating precursor material containing a metal element; and (d) a step for removing the polydopamine thin film through a heat treatment of the reactant of step (c) and forming a coating layer containing a compound containing the metal element on the surface of the positive electrode active material.
