Abstract: A method for transforming cactus is provided to transform the cactus easily, which is known to be a difficult species of transformation, thereby developing a novel cactus species with enhanced pathogen resistance and anti-viral property. A method for transforming cactus by introducing an expression vector including a target gene into a bulblet generation portion of the cactus comprises a step of inducing the bulblet generation by cutting a portion of the cactus before or after the introduction of the expression vector, wherein the expression vector is introduced by Agrobacterium through a pin-prickle technique, a vacuum filtration technique or a combination thereof. Further, the vacuum filtration technique is performed by removing rapidly a vacuum pressure after 10 to 50 cmHg of vacuum for 5 to 30 minutes.
