Abstract: PURPOSE: A shared memory program initial contention detecting method and a device thereof increase the efficiency in terms of working time and memory space by maintaining the history of access and the history of initial contention events in a shared memory system at a constant value level. CONSTITUTION: When a reading event becomes a reading candidate of an initial contention, an initial contention detecting unit (2) renews a flag of a thread indicating that a reading candidate appears with a certain value. Using the value of the flag, the initial contention detecting unit detects contentions for an accessing event. If the flag is renewed to the certain value, the initial contention detecting unit does not stop initial contention detection, returns only those reading events taking place after the first reading event, and detects initial contentions for those writing events taking place after the first reading event.
