Abstract: PURPOSE: A composition containing dry powder or an extract of black ginseng for preventing and treating amnesia and neurodegenerative diseases is provided to improve learning ability and space perception ability. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating amnesia and neurodegenerative diseases contains dry powder or an extract of black ginseng as an active ingredient. A method for preparing the dry powder comprises: a step of drying 3-8 year-old ginseng at 10-60 deg.C. for 1- 72 hours; a step of steaming the dried ginseng at 60-120 deg.C. for 1-48 hours; a step of drying the ginseng at 30-80 deg.C. for 1-72 hours; a step of steaming the ginseng at 80-150 deg.C. for 1-48 hours; and a step of drying the ginseng at 30-80 deg.C. for 1-72 hours. The extract is prepared by extracting black ginseng with water, methanol, ethanol, butanol, or a mixture thereof. A health functional food for preventing and treating amnesia and degenerative diseases contains the dry powder or extract as an active ingredient.
