Abstract: PURPOSE: A composition for preventing and treating neuropathic pain containing a ginseng originated saponin extract or saponin separated from the same is provided to apply the composition to produce health food. CONSTITUTION: Health food for preventing and treating neuropathic pain contains ginsenoside Rg3 denoted by chemical formula 3 as an active ingredient. In the chemical formula, R1 is Glc2-Glc and R2 is H. A composition for preventing and treating spinal cord injury contains 0.1-50wt% of ginseng originated saponin extract for the total amount of the composition. The composition for preventing and treating spinal cord injury can be produced into a form selected from: oral dosage forms including powder, granules, tablets, capsules, soft capsules, suspension, emulsion, syrup, or aerosol; and other dosage forms including external preparations, suppositories, or sterilized injection liquid.
