    Abstract: An encoding and decoding method using space prediction directional information of adjacent blocks and an apparatus thereof are provided to exactly predict a prediction mode of a current block by using directional information of a prediction mode of an adjacent block, thereby increasing efficiency of entropy coding. An intra block of a current block is efficiently predicted by using directional information contents of intra mode information of adjacent blocks(410~440). Groups of many intra prediction block modes are formed. The number of groups and prediction modes included in the groups are adaptively changed to improve compressing efficiency. A prediction mode of the current mode is exactly predicted by using directional information of a prediction mode of the adjacent blocks.
