    Abstract: A method of manufacturing uniform bifunctional nanoparticles having excellent magnetic and optical properties is provided, which employs the polyol method for producing core, and utilizes a reducing reaction for the formation of the shell structure on the core. A method of manufacturing bifunctional nanoparticles comprises steps of: mixing a core matter precursor such as Fe(acac)3(99.9%) and a reductant for the core matter followed by a solvent for the reductant to form the first mixture solution; heating the first mixture solution up to the first temperature and then cooling the solution to form a core; mixing a shell matter precursor such as Au(OOCCH3)3 and a reductant for the shell matter precursor followed by a solvent for the reductant to form the second mixture solution; heating the solution up to the second temperature and then cooling it; and coating the core with the produced shell matter during the reductui reaction. A surfactant is added in the mixture solutions for improving the surface properties of the core and the shell. A tri-block copolymer as surfactants is preferable. An ethanol is added in order to precipitate out the nanoparticles, and then the precipitated nanoparticles are collected by centrifugation.
