    Abstract: A red pepper gene CaPMEI1 encoding a pectin methylesterase inhibitor protein is provided to screen resistance against plant disease and environmental stress rapidly, so that the gene is useful for development of transgenic plants having enhanced resistance against plant disease and environmental stress. A red pepper gene CaPMEI1 encoding a pectin methylesterase inhibitor protein having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:2 is isolated from Capsicum annuum L. cv. Hanbyul and has the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:1. A recombinant vector pET32a::CaPMEI1 or pBIN35S::CaPMEI1::GFP contains the red pepper gene CaPMEI1. A method for screening the resistance against plant disease and environmental stress comprises the steps of: isolating RNA from a red pepper plant treated by pathogenic bacterium, chemical or environment stress; subjecting the isolated RNA to electrophoresis and transferring into nylon film(Hybond N+); reacting the nylon film with the CaPMEI1 gene probe labeled with 32P; and confirming discriminative expression of the CaPMEI1 gene.

    Abstract: A plant membrane receptor protein gene CaMRP1 derived from pepper is provided to confer resistance against environmental stresses including methyl jasmonate and high salt on plants by overexpressing the gene, so that the gene is useful for producing and screening transgenic plants having environmental stress resistance. A plant membrane receptor protein gene CaMRP1 derived from pepper(Capsicum annuum L. cv. Hanbyul) has the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:1, wherein the plant membrane receptor protein has the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:2. An environmental stress resistant transgenic plant is produced by inserting the plant membrane receptor protein gene CaMRP1 into pBIN35S to prepare a recombinant vector, and transforming a plant such as Arabidopsis thaliana with the recombinant vector.
