Abstract: PURPOSE: A device for estimating an encoding type of voice compression streams in wireless communication and a method thereof are provided to analyze only voice compression streams without prior information about an encoding type of an encoder for received voice compression streams, thereby estimating the encoding type. CONSTITUTION: A receiving unit(11) receives voice compression streams which are encoded by a specific encoding type. A determining unit(12) estimates an encoding type of the voice compression streams based on the length of an obtained frame and correlation per each bit location by applying an MAFD(Mean Absolute Frame Difference) to the voice compression streams. The determining unit selects a decoder corresponding to the estimated encoding type from decoders. The determining unit distinguishes whether the encoding type is based on a frame based on the length of an estimated frame and correlation per a bit location of the voice compression streams.
