Abstract: PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling a thermal electric cooler are provided to prevent an error of the thermal electric cooler by controlling power supplied to the thermal electric cooler. CONSTITUTION: An error detection portion(201) receives an input voltage from a thermal sensor of a non-cooling detector and a reference voltage and calculates a difference between the received voltages as an error value. The first control portion(203) outputs the first power driving signal in order to operate stably a thermal electric cooler. The second control portion(205) monitors the input voltage, compares the input voltage with a predetermined rage of operating temperature of the thermal electric cooler, and generates the second power driving signal according to the compared result. A selection portion(207) outputs selectively the first and the second power driving signals. A power supply portion(209) supplies the power for operating the thermal electric cooler.
