Abstract: PURPOSE: A composition containing compounds isolated from Schisandra chinensis extract is provided to protect cells through NF-kappaB suppression. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating colitis disease contains deoxyschisandrin compounds isolated from Schisandra chinensis or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient. The colitis diseases include acute enteritis, bacterial colitis, bacillary dysentery, cholera, typhoid fever, pediatricuse, viral colitis, pseudomembranous colitis, amebic colitis, inflammatory bowel disease, crohn's disease, ischemic colitis, and behcet colitis. A health food for preventing and treating colitis diseases contains the compounds or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient.
