    Abstract: A method for adaptively detecting scene switchover in real-time in a PMP(Personal Multimedia Player) is provided to discriminate the scene switchover more easily than using a present dispersion value by using weight dispersion. A dispersion value applying weight is used to extract a feature value of a scene switchover. An average of pixel values is computed from a differential frame between two consecutive frames. Dispersion of the next frame is calculated by using the calculated average.
