Abstract: A pharmaceutical composition and a health food for treating and preventing cocainism symptom and withdrawal are provided to reduce drastically locomotor activity used as index of drug-poisoning and the c-Fos expression which is specific characterizing compound. A pharmaceutical composition for treating and preventing cocainism symptom and withdrawal comprises an isoliquiritigenin separated from glycyrrhizae radix of 0.02 to 50% weight as an active ingredient based on total weight of the composition. A health food for treating and preventing cocainism symptom and withdrawal comprises an isoliquiritigenin separated from glycyrrhizae radix as an active ingredient. The health food is refinement, capsule, pilule or liquor.

Abstract: An extract of Glycyrrhiza radix or liquiritin or liquiritigenin isolated therefrom is provided to show excellent inhibitory effect on release of nucleus accumbens dopamine, thereby being used as a pharmaceutical composition and a health functional food for preventing and treating drug abuse and withdrawal symptoms. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating drug abuse and withdrawal symptoms comprises 0.02-50 wt.% of an extract of Glycyrrhiza radix or liquiritin or liquiritigenin isolated therefrom as an effective ingredient, wherein the extract is prepared by using a solvent selected from the group consisting of water, C1-4 alcohol and a mixture thereof.
