Abstract: A composition for improving and treating acne vulgaris is provided to have antibacterial effect against P. acnes using a Caesalpinia sappan L. extract. A composition of skin external preperation for improving and treating acne vulgaris comprises 0.1-50 weight% of Caesalpinia sappan L. extract as an active ingredient. The extract is isolated using water, ethanol, methanol, propanol, butanol, acetone, ethylacetate, hexane, butylenes glycol, propylene glycol, hydrous butylenes glycol, hydrous propylene glycol and hydrous glycerin. The composition is used in a form of cream, gel, patch, ointment, plaster, lotion, liniment, or cataplasma agent. The composition is also used in a form of skin, lotion, nutrition lotion, nutrition cream, massage cream, essence, or pack.
