Abstract: An extract of Ailanthus altissima is provided to show excellent electron donor capability, SOD like activity, nitrite scavenging effect, xanthine oxidase inhibitory activity, and tyrosinase inhibitory activity and have high polyphenol content, thereby being usefully used as a cosmetic composition for anti-aging and skin whitening. A cosmetic composition for preventing skin aging and skin whitening comprises an extract of Ailanthus altissima as an effective ingredient, which is prepared by extracting roots, stems or leaves of the Ailanthus altissima with a solvent selected from the group consisting of water, C1-4 alcohol, a mixture of the water and the C1-4 alcohol, propylene glycol, ethyl acetate, butylene glycol, ether and chloroform. Further, the composition is skin, cream, emulsion, essence, pack or spray.
