Abstract: PURPOSE: A fruit selecting device is provided to prevent fruits from being damaged and to improve the reliability for selecting fruits by automatically carrying out the fruit selecting work. CONSTITUTION: A fruit selecting device includes a fruit supplying section(1) for loading fruits on a fruit bowl. The fruit bowl having fruits is conveyed by means of a fruit conveying container(4). A grade determining section(8) is installed on the fruit conveying container(4) in order to determine the grade of fruits. First and second discharging sections(2,3) are provided to discharge fruits selected by the grade determining section(8). The fruit bowl is guided into the first discharging section or second discharging section by means of a guiding device. A plurality of bowl retrieving conveyers(5,6,7) are provided to allow the fruit bowl into the fruit supplying section(1).

Abstract: PURPOSE: A device for automatically calibrating a light source for discriminating the sweetness of fruits is provided to improve the precision of the sweetness discrimination by measuring and analyzing the light energy reflected from both surfaces of a fruit. CONSTITUTION: A device for automatically calibrating a light source for discriminating the sweetness of fruits includes light induction parts(12) for inducing light emitted from a light source to a position where a measurement sample is put, light emitting and receiving assemblies(14) for radiating the light induced to the light induction parts positioned toward the light measurement sample and receiving the light, a light source path shield element(20) mounted between the light induction parts for selectively shielding the path of the light emitted from the light source, and a photodetector for analyzing spectrum for discriminating the sweetness and acidity of the sample by calculating the intensity of the light received by the light emitting and receiving assemblies, and controlling the light source path shield element to shield the light path if the intensity of the received light decreases gradually.

Abstract: An apparatus for measuring fruit properties, in order to classify fruit according to internal qualities, measures the sweetness of a fruit sample using near-infrared spectroscopy. The apparatus includes a pair of waveguides ( 12 ), a pair of optic emitter/sensor assemblies ( 14 ), a light-interrupting unit ( 20 ), and a light detector ( 40 ). The light detector calculates the intensity of light, transmitted from a light source and received by the optical emitter/sensor assemblies, thus allowing spectral analysis and interpretation for the determination of sweetness and acidity of a variety of fruits. The light detector controls the light-interrupting unit to interrupt the optical path when the light intensity is reduced. The apparatus is suitable for use in an automated line, for effective and reliable measurement of internal fruit properties, to improve operational efficiency and precision in fruit selection.
