    Abstract: Provided is a method for preparing a formaldehyde scavenger, wherein the formaldehyde scavenger decreases the amount of formaldehyde emitted from an adhesive when added to an adhesive for wood boards, and thus reduces the amount of formaldehyde to be introduced into a human body. The method for preparing a formaldehyde scavenger comprises the steps of: mixing formaldehyde with urea to have a formaldehyde/urea molar ratio of 0.4-0.9; adding an alkali to the mixture of formaldehyde and urea to keep the pH of the mixture in an alkaline range; and heating the alkaline mixture at 85-90°C such that the scavenger has a solid content of 45-50%. The alkali is at least one selected from sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, ammonium acetate, ammonium carbonate, and ammonium bicarbonate. The alkaline mixture has a pH of 7.0-8.5.
