Abstract: The present invention relates to a flame retardant pipe material for covering a pipe and a method for manufacturing a flame retardant pipe material. The flame retardant pipe material comprises: an insulation body formed of expandable polystyrene having multiple close-type cells; and an outer flame retardant body arranged in one surface of the insulation body and formed by drying porous members having multiple open-type cells after impregnating the porous members in a flame retardant solution containing flame retardant substances. The insulation body is positioned inside the outer flame retardant body, and then both the insulation body and the outer flame retardant body are rolled to attach both ends thereof so that it can be formed as a sleeve shape to cover the pipe. The present invention is formed of: the insulation body which is formed of the expandable polystyrene having the multiple close-type cells to maximize insulation characteristics; and one or more among the outer flame retardant body arranged on the outer surface of the insulation body to have the flame retardant maximized by drying the porous members having the multiple open-type cells after impregnating the porous members in the flame retardant solution containing the flame retardant substances and an inner flame retardant body similarly arranged on the inner surface of the insulation body; thereby improving work and installation environments in comparison with an existing glass fiber insulation pipe material from which glass powders harmful to the human body are scattered so as to improve the health state of workers. The insulation characteristics of the insulation body is not declined because it does not contain the glass fiber and others even through having high flame retardant against the flame of the outer retardant body by arranging the outer flame retardant body with the maximized flame retardant on the outer surface of the insulation body with the maximized insulation characteristics. Accordingly, the present invention can obtain high insulation property.
