    Abstract: PURPOSE: A small planar patch antenna is provided to reduce the size of the antenna and widen the bandwidth, while maintaining radiation characteristics similar to the characteristics of a monopole antenna. CONSTITUTION: A small planar patch antenna comprises a radiation unit and a feeder unit. The radiation unit includes an upper patch(11) for radiating wave; a first dielectric formed beneath the upper patch; a lower patch(12) formed beneath the first dielectric, and which has a size same as the size of the upper patch; a plurality of vias(15) for electrically connecting the upper patch and the lower patch; and a second dielectric formed beneath the lower patch, and which has a dielectric constant different from the dielectric constant of the first dielectric. The feeder unit includes a dielectric substrate(13) arranged beneath the radiation unit, and which has a feeder line(17) for supplying electricity; a via for connecting the feeder line formed on the dielectric substrate and the lower patch of the radiation unit; a ground surface(14) formed between the second dielectric and the dielectric substrate, and which has a hole(18) for penetration of the via; and two or more short pins(16) for electrically disconnecting the ground surface and the lower patch of the radiation unit so as to reduce the size of the radiation unit.
