Abstract: PURPOSE: Anti-diabetic drug and functional food containing an alcohol extract of Panax ginseng leaves are provided, which alcohol extract of Panax ginseng leaves inhibits the activity of alpha-glucosidase, reduces blood sugar level when it is orally administered, and is cheaper than their roots, so that it can be useful for prevention and treatment of diabetes. CONSTITUTION: The anti-diabetic drug contains 30 to 60 wt.% of an alcohol extract of Panax ginseng leaves, wherein the alcohol extract of Panax ginseng leaves is prepared by the steps of: (1) adding alcohol such as 80% ethanol into the Panax ginseng leaves to prepare a crude extract of Panax ginseng leaves, and (2) removing distinct pigments and lipid layer of Panax ginseng from the crude extract of Panax ginseng leaves by using an adsorption resin. The anti-diabetic functional food contains 0.1 to 3 wt.% of the alcohol extract of Panax ginseng leaves.
