    Abstract: PURPOSE: Provided is a composition comprising phlorotannin isolated from extract of Ecklonia stolonifera Okamura which has anti-oxidative activity, wherein the phlorotannin effectively scavenges free radicals. Therefore, it is used for pharmaceutical compositions for preventing aging and foods for preventing oxidation. CONSTITUTION: The anti-oxidative composition contains, as an active ingredient, phlorotannin isolated from the extract of Ecklonia stolonifera Okamura, wherein the phlorotannin is selected from the group consisting of phloroglucinol, eckstolonol, eckstolonol pentaacetate, eckol, phlorofucofuroeckol A and dieckol.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: A composition having antioxidation activity comprising the extract and flavonoid compounds isolated from Nelumbo nucifera stamen is provided, thereby inhibiting formation of reactive oxygen species(ROS) and inhibiting activity of DPPH radical and lipid peroxide ion, so that it can be useful for prevention and treatment of diseases caused by oxidative stresses. CONSTITUTION: The composition having antioxidation activity comprises a crude extract of Nelumbo nucifera stamen, wherein the crude extract of Nelumbo nucifera stamen is prepared by using a polar solvent selected from water, methanol, butanol or a mixture thereof or a nonpolar solvent selected from ethylacetate, n-hexane, methylene chloride, and chloroform. The composition having antioxidation activity comprises flavonoid compounds isolated from Nelumbo nucifera stamen represented by formula (I), and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein R1 is hydrogen, hydroxy, C1-C4 alkyl or alkoxy, gluco, rhamnogluco(Rha(1>6)-Glu), galacto, glucurono, or lower alkyl glucurono; and R2 and R3 are independently hydrogen, hydroxy, C1-C4 alkyl or alkoxy.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: Provided is a pharmaceutical composition comprising the extract of Scutellaria baicalensis which has peroxynitrite scavenging activity, or baicalin, baicalein, wogonin or 5,7,2,5-tetrahydroxy-8,6-dimethoxyflavone isolated from the extract. The composition effectively scavenges peroxynitrite to inhibit the generation of reactive oxygen species(ROS) and the nitration of proteins. Therefore, it prevents and inhibits aging. CONSTITUTION: The pharmaceutical composition for prevention and inhibition of aging is characterized by containing, as an active ingredient, (i) the crude of Scutellaria baicalensis or the nonpolar solvent extract thereof, wherein the crude extract is obtained by using methanol and the nonpolar solvent extract is obtained by using ethylacetate; or (ii) baicalin, baicalein, wogonin or 5,7,2,5-tetrahydroxy-8,6-dimethoxyflavone isolated from the extract, in the amount of 0.01-50 wt.%, based on the total weight of the composition. Therefore, the composition prevent and inhibits aging, and prevents and treats diseases caused by peroxynitrite.
