Abstract: A loss prevention device for a portable apparatus and a method therefor are provided to output a warning sound for indicating the loss of the portable apparatus according to intensity of illumination, regardless of changes of a peripheral magnetic force, thereby outputting the warning sound right before the portable apparatus is lost. An illumination sensor(110) detects intensity of illumination. If the current illumination is higher than reference illumination, a main controller(120) controls output of a warning sound as requesting a password to be inputted. A display(130) outputs a screen related to loss prevention operation as well as a screen for demanding the password. A key input unit(140) inputs a key related to the loss prevention operation. A memory(150) stores the reference illumination and the detected current illumination. A warning device(160) generates and outputs the warning sound under control of the main controller(120).
