Abstract: A method for managing a memory in a portable terminal is provided to adjust the number of data loaded onto a RAM from a flash memory in data display of a portable terminal, thereby providing the efficiency of the management of the memory. The number of data, which can be displayed on a screen image, and the first data for display are determined in a flash memory, when an additional service of displaying the list of data on the screen image is driven(203). Data are loaded into a RAM by the number of data determined based on the first data in the flash memory(207). The loaded data are displayed on the screen image(209). It is determined whether a user selects a key in order to update the screen image. If the key is selected, the update direction of the screen image and the update unit of the screen image are determined. Data for display onto a next screen image are loaded from the flash memory to the RAM according to the determined direction and unit. The data loaded into the RAM are displayed.
