Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for restoring a remote user interface (RUI) in a Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) environment. In the method, a client receiving an RUI from a server, requests that the state information of the RUI be saved. The method includes obtaining state information generated when the RUI is used, and requesting that the obtained state information be saved. Accordingly, it is possible to apply a method of storing and restoring state information of a remote user interface, in a UPnP environment, to an HTTP-based remote protocol model having stateless characteristics which do not allow state information of a remote user interface to be stored.

Abstract: A method for transmitting a termination message of a controlled device which is abnormally terminated in an UPnP network and an apparatus thereof are provided to enable all the control points within a network to swiftly be notified that the controlled device is abnormally terminated as not causing overload in the network or causing a compatibility problem with existing UPnP devices, by making a control point monitor abnormal termination of the controlled device based on a message defined in the UPnP standard. A method for transmitting a termination message of a controlled device which is abnormally terminated in an UPnP network comprises the following several steps. In case an advanced controlled device is abnormally terminated without transmitting a byebye message(1311), an advanced control point, having monitored abnormal termination of the advanced controlled device transmits a registration update message to the advanced controlled device before a timeout period for an event subscription has passed(1321). If there is no response from the advanced controlled device, the advanced control point regards the controlled device as abnormally terminated(1322), and transmits the byebye message to all the control points on behalf of the advanced controlled device(1331,1332).
