Abstract: A device and a method for detecting a person are provided to detect the person by calculating a recognition level that entire shape of components formed by integrated segments is recognized as a human body, differentially updating probability to be selected at first and to be connected in response to the calculated recognition level, and repeating update. A segmentation part(120) analyzes color information of each pixel forming an image and generates segments by grouping the pixels having similarity among the analyzed color information. A hypothesis generator(140) selects the segment for each component at first according to the probability to be selected at first, selects the segment for each component according to the probability to be connected, and connects the selected segment and the previously selected segment. A hypothesis verifier(150) checks the recognition level for recognizing the shape of the components formed by the selected segments as the person, and determines the shape as the person by responding to a check result. A segment probability updater(160) differentially updates the probability to be selected at first and to be connected in the response to the check result.
