Abstract: An image reading apparatus and a control method thereof are provided to prevent scan quality from being lowered when two scan units having different performance scan a manuscript. An automatic manuscript sheet feeding unit transfers a manuscript. The first scan unit(140) scans the first side of the transferred manuscript. The second scan unit(150) scans the second side of the transferred manuscript. A control unit(160) determines one of the first and second scan units as a reference scan unit in a double side scan mode. The control unit controls speed of feeding a manuscript to transfer the manuscript at a proper speed by the reference scan unit.
