Abstract: A method for reducing computation quantity during an equalization process and an apparatus using the same are provided to reduce power consumption of a receiver of a wireless communication by reducing a computation quantity consumed in an equalization process. An equalizing method of a communication system includes the steps of: performing pre-equalization for first group frames among consecutive frames(S51); and estimating a pre-equalization result for second group frames among the consecutive frames based on the pre-equalization result of the first group frames(S52). The pre-equalization performing step includes the step of selecting the first group frames from the consecutive frames. The pre-equalization result estimation step includes the steps of: estimating the pre-equalization result of second group frames by performing interpolation or extrapolation calculation for the pre-equalization result of the first group frames; and performing the pre-equalization for the frame if the estimated pre-equalization result of the second group frames does not satisfy a predetermined reference.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for decoding a paging message in a wireless communication system are provided to minimize power consumption of a terminal in a sleep state, thereby lengthening the life span of an internal battery. Only the first burst among four bursts of a transmitted paging message is received and equalized(S113,S115). The equalized first burst and a reference paging message are compared(S117).
