Abstract: 본 발명은 GPS(Global Positioning System)가 없는 단말기의 핸드오버를 지원하기 위한 장치 및 방법에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 이동통신 단말기의 핸드오버를 지원하기 위한 방법은, 기지국으로부터 TPS(Transmission Parameter Signaling ) 수신을 통해 셀 ID와 서브 셀 ID를 획득하는 과정과, 상기 기지국으로부터 PSI/SI(Program Specific Information/Service Information) 수신을 통해 각 셀의 위도 및 경도 정보를 획득하는 과정과, 상기 획득된 서브 셀 ID를 이용하여 셀 내 단말 자신이 속한 섹터의 범위를 계산하는 과정과, 상기 획득된 셀 ID와 각 셀의 위도 및 경도 정보와 상기 계산된 섹터의 범위를 이용하여 핸드오버가 가능한 인접 셀의 후보군을 검색하는 과정과, 상기 검색된 인접 셀에 대해 스캐닝을 수행하는 과정과, 스캐닝 결과를 이용하여 핸드오버를 수행할 타겟 인접 셀을 결정하는 과정을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 한다.

Abstract: PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for supporting handover of a terminal without a GPS for transmitting sub cell ID to a terminal through GPS are provided to reduce power consumption by reducing frequency search time of a neighboring cell through off time. CONSTITUTION: A sub cell ID is received from a base station through a TPS(Transmission parameter Signaling)(601). The terminal grasps an own location by using the received sub cell ID(603-607). The terminal refers to the candidate group of the adjacent cell capable of hand over by using the recognized location information(613). The terminal without a GPS for transmits sub cell ID to the terminal through the GPS.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method for channel switching in a DVB-H(Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld) are provided to allow a DVB-H receiver to quickly switch to a user desired channel by searching a frequency of a determined band, rather than searching frequencies of overall bands. A DVB-H receiver receives system information including network information and corresponding frequency information(510). The DVB-H receiver obtains the network information and the corresponding frequency information from the system information(520). For channel tuning, the DVB-H receiver searches a frequency of a limited band by using the network information and the corresponding frequency information, namely, a frequency band at which a user desired channel is transmitted, and switches to a searched channel(530).
