Abstract: An apparatus for information acquisition of adjacent network in heterogeneous network handover and a method thereof in a wireless communications system are provided to improve the quality of a service by determining a target network of a mobile terminal due to performing conversion MIH message and L2 message. A wireless communications system supporting an MIH(Media Independent Handover) comprises MIHFs(410,420,430), a converter(435) and a PoA(Point of Attachment)(440). The MIHF(MIH function) receives a primary request message requesting L2(Layer 2) information of network independent type from MIHF of the adjacent network(401,403). The MIHF extracts the request contents from the primary request message. The converter transmits the second require-message which is subordinate the net generated from the request contents(407).
