Abstract:
An HDD(Hard Disc Drive), a method for parking a magnetic head by sensing falling of an HDD, and a recording medium with a computer program carrying out the method are provided to improve performance and reliability by increasing fall judging accuracy. A method for parking a magnetic head by sensing falling of an HDD includes a step of integrating acceleration detected by an acceleration sensor, by time(S160); a step of correcting one of critical integration values set as a comparison value for an integration value, and of the integrated value, on the basis of a fall counter which is a variable storing a free fall flag time(S170); and a step of parking the magnetic head for the HDD when satisfying a predetermined condition by comparing the one of the corrected critical integration value and the integrated value with the other value(S180,S190,S200).
Abstract:
A method for protecting an openable device in case of freefalling of the openable device, and an openable device using the same are provided to close the openable device when the openable device is falling free in an opened state, thereby preventing damage generated by a shock after freefall. An openable device performs normal functions unless the openable device falls free(S310). A freefall detecting sensor senses whether the openable device falls free(S320). A control unit closes an opening and shutting part when the openable device is falling free(S330). If the openable device is reading or writing data, a control unit controls to stop the reading or writing operation(S340). The control unit controls to move a hard disk drive to a ramp where a head performing reading and writing of data is not damaged by a shock(S350). The freefall detecting sensor judges whether freefall is completed(S360). If so, the openable device performs operations before freefall(S370).
Abstract:
A method for controlling unload of a hard disc drive and an adequate device for the same are provided to prevent a head from being reloaded before finish of free falling and to prevent free falling of the hard disc drive effectively. A method for controlling unload of a hard disc drive includes a step of unloading a head(S502,S504); a step of judging the finish of free falling with a free-fall sensor when unloading the head by the free falling(S506,S508); and a step of reloading the head when detecting the finish of the free falling(S510,S512). The power supplied to the free-fall sensor is cut off when the head is not unloaded by free falling.
