Abstract: A display device and its control method are provided to prevent a loss of a contrast ratio by increasing an output luminance level such that a maximum luminance level of each display region becomes an available luminance level. A display unit(30) has a plurality of divided display regions. A signal processing unit(20) processes an inputted image signal. A controller(40) detects output luminance levels, which are represented correspondingly according to gray scale levels of the image signal, of the plurality of display regions, calculates a correction coefficient allowing a maximum luminance level of the detected output luminance levels to reach an available luminance level that can be displayed to its maximum level on the display unit, converts the output luminance level, compares the converted output luminance level with a certain reference luminance level, and sets a correction table.
