    Abstract: An image coding method and apparatus, and a decoding method and apparatus are provided to enhance a prediction efficiency by performing an intra-prediction by using an adjacent pixel in a certain block, and increase a coding compression rate of image data. An image coding apparatus performs an intra-prediction by pixel groups such that values of pixels belonging to the first pixel group among pixel groups are predicted by using values of pixels belonging to the second pixel group(S700). The image coding apparatus determines an optimum prediction mode with respect to a current block(S710). The image coding apparatus calculates prediction errors of the pixels of the first pixel group(S720). The image coding apparatus converts the calculated prediction errors into a frequency domain(S730). The image coding apparatus quantizes the converted prediction errors(S740). The image coding apparatus generates a bit stream by entropy-coding the quantized prediction errors(S750). The image coding apparatus generates a packet including the determined prediction mode information and the generated bit stream, and provides it to an image decoding apparatus(S760). The image coding apparatus generates restored pixels by using the quantized prediction errors(S770).
